Prosecutor resigns in CJP’s favour
LAHORE: Special prosecutor Abdul Latif Hanjra resigned from his office on Sunday to protest against the government for suspending and “disgracing” Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.Hinjra resigned from his office during the CJP’s visit to the Lahore Bar Association. He said he decided to resign because of the “highly unjustified suspension” and “disgraceful” treatment of the CJP by the government. In his resignation statement he said that keeping in view the “precarious and extraordinary” situation of the country and being a member of the legal community he was unable to ignore recent events and inclined to quit his office because the present government had no regard for the Constitution and rule of law. Hinjra called the “unprecedented” struggle of lawyers a golden chapter in the history of Pakistan, which would make the judiciary independent. staff report
